Living in the past is trespassing
A theme that runs through Paul's teaching is that we are trespassing when we live in the past.
2 Corinthians 3: 21,22
"So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours,"
Notice how All things are yours which include the present and the future but NOT the past. Another scripture that conveys a similar concept is
"Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, "
There are so many things that are in our past that can haunt us and control us. Therefore, we would do well to realize that we are trespassing in the past and that we need to follow Paul's example and forget the past.
